These are images of the prototype multimedia installation series that started in my studio, and later inspired my final MFA thesis exhibition, In The Mix. Through this series, I explore how genre emerges from and contributes to the socio-cultural shaping of identity.
“Roots Rock Reggae Edition” was displayed in The Artery Gallery at the University of Waterloo in 2023, showcasing a selection of reggae albums in my collection, along with vintage reggae concert posters, books and other memorabilia.
A 16-minute audio collage accompanied the installation, using found samples from documentaries, interviews and songs.
The title “Afrosonic” takes inspiration from Mark V. Campbell’s book, Afrosonic Life.
